So i have my audience figured out but how and i going to make them want my magazine? I started off using my audience to my advantage, for instance the modern bold text and cartoons used suggests this magazine is new and modern which a teenage audience of 16 to 29 would like to see. I have also got my target audiences genre and therefore fill my magazine with bands like pigeon Detectives etc, this will mean they see my magazine as being something that will interest them and something they will want to read. My front page is designed to attract an older audience probably mainly 18 to 29 as it has an uncluttered background with simple to the point cover lines, no tacky offers or gossip. This means an older and more intelligent audience will read it, this represents my middle class young adult audience. My contents page shows immediately that my magazine is going to have a lot of words and pages and will not be suited to a less intelligent audience. As you can see above i have got the social economic groups, i have put my target audience into groups C1,C2 and D this is down to age especially as most of them will be students working part time. Knowing my social group i have to put a price on the magazine i have gone with £1.80, this is a weekly magazine and will be affordable for these social groups. A great deal of market research is needed to start a magazine, so i made up a questionnaire and handed it out.

As you can see i asked questions such as do you like a cluttered layout or simple layout? Turned out the people i asked that are within my audience wanted a simple layout, you will notice i've used this for the finished piece. You will also notice i have also asked about what magazine is the favourite, NME won this, it also won in layout over Q magazine, this influenced my decision to base my magazine on NME. All of the things i found out in my magazine i have used, after all i'm creating my magazine for my audience not for me, so what they want they get. After this research i could confidentially create my magazine knowing that the audience i'm making it for will like it.
